Chaperone Preparation

Select adult helpers for the field trip, with a recommended ratio of 1 adult per 5 students, particularly for grades 2-4. Chaperones will play an active role in learning, so it's important they understand their responsibilities throughout the day.

Tips for a Successful Field Trip

  • Smaller class sizes enhance outdoor activities and experience!

  • Prepare a first-aid kit, as Mesquite staff will also carry one during the trip.

  • Organize lunches into group boxes for seamless distribution at mealtime.

Mesquite Power’s Wildlife Oasis Field Trip Rules

  • All participants—teachers, students, and adult helpers—should familiarize themselves with the rules before the trip.

  • Leave no trace! Help us keep Mesquite Wildlife Oasis beautiful. Please inform students to use the trash cans located throughout the site.

  • To ensure safety and an enriching experience, Mesquite staff, teachers, and chaperones will lead all hikes and activities. Students must remain with their assigned groups throughout the day.

Rainy Day Policy

We will continue with scheduled programs in light to moderate rain, provided there is no lightning. Teachers should check the weather forecast the day before the trip. Programs will be canceled in cases of heavy rain, lightning, or thunderstorms. If a school opts to cancel a trip, please contact Michelle at 623-633-3925. Cancellations due to weather may be rescheduled.

Rules for Outdoor Dress

  • Dress in clothes suitable for outdoor activities.

  • Long pants and closed-toed shoes are encouraged. Programs will not change for students not dressed appropriately, and those who jeopardize their safety may be required to sit out.

  • Mornings in fall, winter, and spring can be cool, so please dress accordingly.

Thank you for your attention to these details. We look forward to a wonderful and educational experience at Mesquite Wildlife Oasis!
